Hanwha (Hangul: 한화; Hanja: 韓華), formerly known as Hankook Hwayak (Hangul: 한화종합화학; Hanja: 韓華綜合化學), is one of the largest conglomerates, or chaebol, in Korea. Its main business is in chemicals and explosives, but it has also expanded into securities, insurance, home decor, telecom, retail, logistics, shipping, construction, and resort industries. It owns the Seoul Plaza Hotel and various resorts in Pusan and Jeju. Its line of department stores, The Galleria, is one of the most luxurious department stores in Seoul. It also has a professional baseball team, the Hanwha Eagles. As of April, 2008, it is bidding to buy Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.[1]
